Belmont Red, winner of Normans Best Breed competition

Norman’s Best Breed 2025

Every year, steak lovers flock to the Norman to take part in a true test of flavour, tenderness, and overall likeability — Norman’s Best Breed.

This year’s competition was one of the closest we’ve ever seen. Four incredible breeds went head-to-head on the grill: Murray Grey, Hereford, Speckle Park, and Belmont Red. Our guests were the judges, tasting each cut and scoring them on flavour, tenderness, and overall like.

When the votes were tallied, the result could not have been tighter — just one point separated first and second place.

And the winner?
Belmont Red – crowned Norman’s Best Breed for 2025.

A huge thank you goes to JBS Aussie Beef for taking it in their stride to separate the breeds and ensure a fair contest. Their dedication to showcasing the best of Australian beef allows us to bring competitions like this to life.

Now, the real reward — you get to taste the champion. Belmont Red will be our feature breed this month.  On the menu, 300gm NY Striploin, a cut that balances flavour, tenderness, and juiciness in every bite.

Whether you’re a long-time regular or visiting Brisbane’s worst vegetarian restaurant for the first time, now’s the perfect moment to experience a breed that truly won over our guests.

Come and taste for yourself why Belmont Red took the crown.
